Sophia Dodson, 91, Vinco, died April 14, 2021 at home. Born September 3, 1929, in Vintondale, daughter of Charles and Sophia (Voloshin) Kovach. She was a first generation American, who was proud of her Russian heritage. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, John Telesko, and James Telesko; and sisters, Mary Beltz, Annie Telesko, Helen Brennan, and Julia Azevedo. Survived by loving husband of 64 years, Raymond; children, Kathryn (William Tracy); Michael; Thomas (Tracy Fritz); Sandra (Jonathan Pulsifer); James (Mary Ball); and David (Elizabeth Pulsifer); 11 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, and PSEA. She graduated from Indiana Teacher’s College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was a retired teacher from Central Cambria School District. She was an avid gardener, who enjoyed her flowers. She loved cooking for family, lively conversation, and was passionate of her Russian Orthodox Faith. The Dodson family extends a heart-felt thank you to the staff of Nealen Personal Care Home, and Windber Hospice. Friends received 4-8PM Friday at Henderson-Makuchan Funeral Home, 434 First Street, Conemaugh, where Parastas will be sung after The Pre-sanctified Liturgy. Funeral service will begin Saturday at 8:45AM at the funeral home and continue immediately in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church with Very Rev. Archpriest George Johnson. Masks and social distancing are required by those attending. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church.
